Nominators

Illustration experts from all over the world were invited as nominators of ilustrarte. Each nominator listed 5 to 10 picture books published in the last 2 years (2018-2021). The names of all nominators will be posted on the ilustrarte website, but not their lists.

Selection

From the lists of all nominators, a jury of 4 international experts (illustrators, designers, art directors and publishers) will select 50 authors for the exhibition and catalogue. Among them, they will choose the Grand Prix ilustrarte 2021 and special mentions.
The award of 5000€ will be presented on the opening of the exhibition.
The selected illustrators will be informed and invited to send 3 original illustrations or quality printouts in the case of digital works.
The exhibition will display 3 original illustrations of each selected artist and the book. All nominated books will also be present at the exhibition.
As usual, there will be a second exhibition and catalogue by a guest illustrator.
The exhibition will take place at the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Castelo Branco, Portugal, from September to December 2021.
The illustrations will be framed by the organization and exhibited displaying the illustrator’s name and title of work. A bilingual catalogue will be published for the exhibition. Each illustrator will be granted two pages in the catalogue and a biographical note. Two copies of the catalogue will be given to each selected participant.

Return of artwork

Ilustrarte ensures that the greatest care will be taken with the return of the works. The selected illustrations will be insured during the exhibition (400€ per illustration). All original illustrations will be returned by surface registered mail. Copies of digital artwork and books will not be returned. Ilustrarte is not responsible for any damage or loss occurring during return transportation.

Reproduction

The authors and publishers authorize the organization, without restriction or request for payment, to reproduce their illustrations in the catalogue and web site, posters and postcards, invitations and leaflets, press articles and television. One of the illustrations may be used as image of the next edition of the biennial. Any other use of the illustrations shall be negotiated with the illustrators.

Acceptance

Participation in the ilustrarte competition implies unconditional acceptance of the above rules, and recognizes the final decision of the jury as irrevocable.
